Who we are

Sanna Päivärinta, Kulttuuripaja Sands

Tourism in Kalajoki bursts alive, especially in Hiekkasärkät, the tourist center by beautiful, kilometers long sandy dunes and beaches, on the shoreline of the Bothnian Bay. The area is full of services, offering something for everyone.

I have grown to love the sea, in its mighty beauty. I love the freedom it offers. I admire and respect those nature forces, that one can almost touch when standing on the breakwater of Keskuskari harbor. That is why I go windsurfing, sailing or stand up paddling when ever I get a chance for that - even during winter, on ice!

Whenever I feel I need a moment for myself, I stop at the shore. I stare at the waves dancing in front of me, and let myself fly in my thoughts. That place is my church, there I heal my hurts.

I have lived across Finland and Europe, and worked more or less within traveling and tourism industry for over 15 years. I have visited Kalajoki many times in my childhood, but when I finally moved there, I found my true home. And I cannot wait to take you to meet and greet the fascinating Bothnian Bay!

Helena Hurri, Office and Dreams

Sometimes you just need to have room enough for your thoughts. Kalajoki offers just that.

Not only the seaside but also the landscape with fields and forest allows you to reach far out – there are really not that many high places in Kalajoki. Even the army of windmills standing in the horizon underline the wide and open space. I do think that this landscape has a great impact on the way we think and live our lives here: relaxed and open for new ideas.

This is the landscape I love and this is the landscape of my soul. It took me back to Kalajoki after having spend decades in the southern parts of Finland, some years in Germany, too.

Upon returning home I started my own business and now I am literally chasing for dreams. My professional experience is built on roles as communication expert, executive assistant and project specialist. Now I wish to find a way to merge this experience and my personality for welcoming and hosting English and German speaking groups in Kalajoki!
